Residents of Nairobi on Tuesday morning woke up to a massive traffic snarl-up in the Southern Bypass after protestors blocked the road.
The standstill emanated from an alleged incident where a trailer was involved in a hit and run between the Dagoretti and Ngong interchange.
The trailer had allegedly hit a man trying to cross the road and the driver fled without offering any assistance.
Expressing their displeasure over the incident, residents blocked the section of the road heading towards the city centre.
The barricades of twigs and thorns caused traffic to pile up for kilometres on the busy highway.
Motorists, including passengers using Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), heading to their respective places of work spent more than an hour stuck on the road.
According to a source from a local blog, he stated that he came to a complete standstill while heading to work for almost an hour.
“Police however came and negotiated with the residents and eventually traffic started moving again,” he stated.
