Kenya has announced 247 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours after testing 4,147 samples rising the total tally of the number of infections e to 7,188.
242 of the new cases,are Kenyans while five are foreigners. 164 of the positive cases are male while 83 are female. The ages of the new cases range from a one-year-old with the oldest being 100 years old.
It was announced that 39 patients had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,148.
At the same time, two more Covid-19 patients have died raising the death toll to 154
Health CAS Rashid Aman said the new cases are from 4147 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
“Our cumulative samples tested so far now stands at 180,206. From today’s cases 242 are Kenyans while 5 are foreigners, & 164 are males, and 83 females. The youngest is a one year old infant while the oldest is 100,” he said.
The cases are distributed in Nairobi 153, Mombasa 35, Kajiado 15, Busia 12, Kiambu 12, Uasin Gishu 4, Machakos 4, Garissa 4, Murang’a 2, Nakuru 2, Siaya 2, Lamu 1, and Nyamira 1.
Distribution in Nairobi is as follows: Kibra (35), Westlands (28), Dagoretti North (16), Kasarani (13), Embakasi East (12), Starehe (10), Langata (8), Makadara (6), Embakasi South (5), Embakasi West (4), Kamukunji (4), Roysambu (4), Dagoretti South (3), Ruaraka (3), & Embakasi Central (2).
Mombasa cases are in Mvita 17, Likoni 6, Changamwe 4, Kisauni 3, Jomvu 3 and Nyali 2.
jiado North 4 & Kajiado Central 1 while Busia cases are in Teso South 8, Teso North 2 and Matayos 2.
Health CAS Rashid Aman noted that most people who have succumbed to Covid-19 virus have underlying diseases such as cancer.
He launched the Cancer policy 2019-2030 as well as the breast cancer screening report.
“People seeking cancer treatment can access the service in the nearest level five hospitals. We are five additional radiotherapy facilities in select hospitals in the country,” he stated.
CAS Aman further noted that breast cancer is the leading type of cancer as 6,000 cases are recorded every year.
